On 12 February 2001 the Allied Health Professions Act was implemented. The Act requires that any person practicing therapeutic aromatherapy must hold a qualification (Diploma in Therapeutic Aromatherapy) recognized by the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) in order to practice. Furthermore, in order to practice legally, therapeutic aromatherapists are required to be registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa.
The purpose of the Council is to provide for the control of the practice of allied health professions. Regulations as to scope of practice, education and training, etc, are being generated. These will set standards for therapists as well protect the public from unscrupulous practitioners.
Where to study for the Diploma in Therapeutic Aromatherapy?
The Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa should be contacted for approved institutions offering training which will lead to registration.
