WHO CAN PRACTICE LEGALLY AND WHY?

On 12 February 2001 the Allied Health Professions Act was implemented. The Act requires that any person practicing therapeutic aromatherapy must hold a qualification recognized by the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA), with whom you have to be registered. This is a Diploma in Therapeutic Aromatherapy. You must be registered with the Allied Health Professions Council in order to practice legally in South Africa. The purpose of the Council is to provide for the control of the practice of allied health professions. Regulations as to scope of practice, education and training, etc, are being generated. These will set standards for therapists as well protect the public from unscrupulous practitioners.
